This was not happening to her. This was most definitely not happening to her.
Except it was. And Addison had never been more scared in her life. She knew this was it. This was how she was going to die.
But even as that knowledge hit her in the split second between the moment she saw the glint of white to the next moment when the pain seared through her, Addison still refused to believe that this was actually happening. Hell, she was a scientist. For her whole life, she had believed in facts and evidence and proof.
This defied all of that. This made no sense whatsoever.
And this was not at all how she had intended to take her last breath.
It was supposed to be a fun road trip, a getaway from Seattle and the people who shot them dirty glares in the hallway and the gossip that seemed to follow them everywhere. It was a chance to reconnect, to have fun, to fall in love again.
That’s what Derek had promised her. And she had believed him. Though when he had said Louisiana, she had thought New Orleans. Not this town in the middle of nowhere that he insisted on traveling to.
Then one not-very-edible hamburger and a glass of beer later, she had remembered she’d forgotten her phone in the car.
She hadn’t heard a thing, she hadn’t seen a thing, not until a hand had grabbed her arm, locking her against a rock hard body before she could even let out a scream.
And then the mouth had opened and she had seen it. And she had known.
It couldn’t be real, yet it was.
It was a vampire.
And then she felt the pain, as teeth slashed into her neck. She was too stunned to move, not that she could fight the arms pinning her in place even if she wanted to. She heard a scream in the distance and realized, as though in a fog, that it was her doing the screaming, but there was nothing else she could do.
This was it.
She closed her eyes as the pain seared. She was losing consciousness.
“Let go of her!”
The voice sounded beside her. She struggled to open her eyes and could barely make out a head of blond hair.
The pressure around her body loosened, and she felt herself falling, crashing onto hard ground. She needed to get out of here, but she was too weak to move. She could see the blonde man fighting with the vampire. Teeth snapping, hissing.
A new surge of panic arose in her as she realized what was happening, what they both were.
She had to get out here. She really had to get out of here. Where was Derek?
The vampires were leaping, kicking, fighting. One of them was going to win soon and then it was going to be over. It was so going to be over.
Inhaling as deep a breath as she could manage, Addison summoned all her strength to pull herself to her knees, praying the vampires were too busy to notice her. But she couldn’t do it. The second she tried to stand, she toppled over. The world around her was spinning.
Tears were dripping down her cheeks now. And as she peered around to check on her attackers, she gasped in horror. One of the vampires was fleeing.
The moment had finally come. She closed her eyes and braced for the worst.
“Addison?”
Her eyes flew open. A shape swam in front of her. The blond vampire, his face bloody, was crouched before her, staring at her almost … tenderly?
Addison blinked in confusion.
“You’re Addison, right?” the vampire asked.
Stunned, Addison managed a nod.
“Please d-don’t k-k-kill m-me,” she managed to utter. Her voice was barely a whisper. She felt like she was going to pass out.
The vampire in front of her smiled, or at least Addison thought he smiled. She had to be hallucinating.
“I’m pretty sure Derek would kill me if I did that,” she thought she heard him say, and she could have sworn he grinned.
Footsteps sounded behind her, and Addison felt herself jump in fright. But a second later, she sighed in relief as her now-husband-again bent down beside her. She could barely keep her eyes open, but she felt him gather her into his arms, pulling her tight against him.
As if through a fog, she heard him ask, “What happened to her?”
“Rogue vamp,” came the grunted response. “I don’t know know where he came from. I stopped him, but … I’m really sorry, Derek.”
Addison could feel Derek’s fingers skimming over her neck, pushing her hair back, checking her arms, her chest, her back. Something was being pressed against her neck. She wanted to say something, to ask questions, to figure out what the hell was happening, but she was so weak, so tired …
“I don’t think it’s anything too serious,” came a voice from far away. “He just mostly scared her.”
Addison felt herself being picked up. She was safe. She let herself surrender to the blackness.

When Addison opened her eyes, the first thing she made out after determining she was lying on the couch in their hotel suite was her husband sitting across the room — with the blonde vampire.
Addison screamed.
A second later, Derek was crouched in front of her.
“Addison, Addison, Addison. It’s okay, you’re okay, you’re safe.”
Addison raised a trembling finger and pointed at the vampire.
“He’s a vampire!” she shrieked, realizing just how crazy she sounded as the words left her mouth but at the same time not caring. She and Derek had to get out of there.
But out of all the possible reactions in the world, the one she least expected was the one she got.
Derek started to laugh, and then he grinned. He gestured to the vampire across the room, who instantly bounded over beside them.
“Addison,” Derek smiled. “This is Eric. My old friend Eric, who I was telling you about.”
Addison stared.
“What?” she whispered. Was this some kind of sick joke? “He tried to kill me.”
“Actually, I saved you,” Eric cut in. “You can thank me later. And by the way, you’re going to be just fine.”
Addison opened her mouth but no words came out. Everything she had just gone through came rushing back to her as she glared at Derek, then Eric, then back at Derek.
Finally words came. She lunged at her husband.
“You never told me he was a vampire!” she shrieked.
And as Derek tried desperately to avoid her fists trying fruitlessly to pummel him, they both heard Eric laugh from above them.
“I told you that you might want to tell her that before you came for a visit.”

Date: 2010-10-06 03:59 am (UTC)I was kind of imagining they've known each other for years and years. Like maybe Derek's dad met Eric years ago and now he's like part of the family? Or something. Maybe I'll add that into the porny sequel I now totally want to write!

Date: 2010-10-06 05:01 am (UTC)Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think I might continue it (cracky as it may be). I had more originally planned (I totally wanted to bring Pam into it. Or, you know, Derek and Eric should take Addie to Fangtasia. That. Would be epic), but you know me and my waiting till the last minute, so I kind of just needed to end it! ;)
(I totally need to make my hot Eric pic that I used at the whedonland friend meme into an icon. Guh. I could stare at that pic all day)

I'm so sleepy, but I have a big project for work due tomorrow and I am so close to being done, so I'm wavering between stay up and finish or get up early and do it then. I should just do it now, though. Then I can have an easier day tomorrow ... hmmmmm ...
Pam and Addison would make awesome BFFs. But now (thanks to
I KNOW. IF I MET A VAMPIRE WHO LOOKED LIKE THAT, I'D BE LIKE 'YES, PLEASE, BITE ME NOW'!
